Popular deejay Miguel 'Sizzla Kalonji' Collins was involved in a motorcycle crash yesterday in St Ann. Up to late last night he was reportedly still in surgery at the St Ann's Bay Hospital.
Reports from the Runaway Bay police are that at 8:30 p.m., the deejay was involved in a bike accident in Runaway Bay. THE STAR understands that the artiste was travelling along the Salem to Runaway Bay main road, in the vicinity of the popular Jerky's Restaurant, when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a bus. The STAR further understands that he was not wearing a helmet.
When contacted, a member of the artiste's camp confirmed that at the time the deejay was conscious but the extent of his injury was unknown.
Shortly after the incident occurred, a broadcast message on BlackBerry circulated stating, "Miguel Collins ... Sizzla just met in an accident minutes ago ... a bus hit him off his bike. He is now in the St Ann's Bay Hospital ... injuries collar bone broken and a finger hope no further bad news... my prayers are with you dadda."
News quickly spread on social networking site Twitter as reports surfaced that the deejay was in critical condition. A number of fans wished the deejay a speedy recovery.
Sizzla, who hails from August Town in St Andrew, is known for hits such as Praise Ye Jah, Black Woman and Child, Thank You Mama among a slew of conscious songs and dancehall tracks.
In June, the singjay, known for his high-pitched notes, released his 65th album titled The Scriptures. The album was produced by John John and launched at his Waterhouse studio. Sizzla was scheduled to do a series of tours in Africa, Japan, Brazil, Guyana, among countries in the Caribbean to promote the album.
